About

Patchwork Arts is a Community Interest Company based in Rossendale, Lancashire. Established by Theatre Performance and Arts Management graduate Lew Gallagher in 2023, Patchwork Arts works in a collaborative fashion by means of devising original performance work with children and young people in Rossendale, as well as delivering public arts projects both in Rossendale and neighbouring communities across Lancashire and Greater Manchester. We seek to develop these places as a creative producers in the North West, driving up the areas cultural and public profile, celebrating all they has to offer - alongside hoping to bring something new experiences to them.

Our activity also seeks to give young people the opportunities to explore other skills and elements in theatre and the arts, such as technical elements for a performance; or project management skills, where young people will also be given the chance (under guidance and supervision) to bring a public project to their community. We are keen to challenge perceptions of local youth by showing them contributing positively to the community by taking active roles within them.

Vision

We believe that cultural engagement and opportunity for creative expression should not be defined by place. Rather, we believe that they should define place.

Mission

Engaging with with our local communities, we capitalise on the transformative qualities of arts and culture, we work collaboratively with people to serve their needs and interests through creative means to instigate the positive changes they seek.

Our Values

  1. Access to culture matters; it has a place in our identities, and all areas of lives. It is a human right, and everyone deserves equal access to it.

  2. Collaboration and Partnership – we believe in the potential impact of arts and cultural activity, working in equal partnership with individuals and communities to use to co-create brighter futures.

  3. Creativity is everywhere; we wish to emphasise and encourage individuals to scope beyond the recognised cultural ‘giant’s and landmark cities, and to recognise communities around them as cultural producers in their own right rather than the poorer relatives, whose culture is somehow 'lesser'.

"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."

- Maya Angelou
